Currently under the guidance of Monty and Ted Pistoresi, Pistoresi ambulance has been providing ambulance service for the residents of Madera since 1942.

All ambulances operated by Pistoresi Services have at least one EMT- Paramedic, the highest level of training that can be obtained by an Emergency Medical Technician. This exceeds both state and regional requirements.

EMT-Paramedics have over 1000 hours of training and are able to perform many life saving interventions including administering life saving intravenous medications, placing breathing tubes, performing CPR and using electrical defibrillators.

Call 911 immediately if you are experiencing any of the following:

  • Allergic reactions causing wheezing, trouble breathing, or throat tightness.

  • Back pain with loss of bowel or bladder control.

  • Bleeding (large amounts)from vomiting, coughing or the rectum.

  • Bleeding from a wound that can't be controlled with pressure.

  • Breathing problems that cause suffocating sensation or new onset breathing problems.

  • Chest pain of unknown cause or that you think might be a heart attack.

  • Confusion or change in level of alertness that is sudden and unexplained.

  • Fainting (passing or blacking out) will involved in any type of physical exertion or that can't be explained.

  • Fever and lethargy (particularly in an infant or child)

  • Overdoses

  • Penetrating wounds to the head, neck, chest, or abdomen (especially gunshot or stab wounds).

  • Seizures that are new.

  • Seizure in a person with prior seizures that does not stop within the normal amount of time.

  • Stroke symptoms such as sudden weakness of one side of the body or speech difficulties.

This list is not complete. It is often hard to tell what is a true emergency and what is not.

The important thing is to call 911 if you are having symptoms listed above or any other symptoms you think might be an emergency and get to an emergency department for further evaluation.

You are not expected to diagnose your condition- this is the job of trained healthcare professionals.

If you require ambulance transport you may be taken to Madera Community Hospital, Valley Childrens Hospital, University Medical Center- Fresno, or any of the other Fresno-Madera county hospitals.

The hospital you are taken to will depend on the level of care you require if you are seriously ill:

  • Persons having a lifethreatening traumatic injury, such as a bad car accident , stab wound or gunshot will be taken to University Medical Center-Fresno (UMC) because UMC is the regional trauma center best equipped to handle such emergencies.

  • Persons with a nontraumatic lifethreatening emergency, such as severe breathing problems or a severe heart attack, will taken to the nearest hospital capable of handling their emergency.

  • Persons with non lifethreatening injuries may chose which hospital they are taken to.
